Laying the Foundation for Lifelong Learning

At The Khaitan School (TKS), our Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) program is designed to nurture children’s natural curiosity and provide them with a thoughtful and structured learning environment. Our curriculum is inspired by the world’s greatest educators and philosophers, ensuring that every child’s unique learning journey is enriched with meaningful experiences.

Pre-Primary Curriculum Framework

At TKS, we believe in holistic development, ensuring that children grow cognitively, socially, emotionally, and physically. Our curriculum is based on constructivist learning theories, emphasizing:

  • Child-centered learning inspired by Maria Montessori and the Reggio Emilia approach
  • Experiential learning through student observations, problem-solving, and inquiry-based discussions
  • A theme-based curriculum to make learning more interconnected and meaningful. This helps children hone their analytical thinking and see how the knowledge and skills from one area can be relevant to other areas.
  • Amphitheater Sessions: Children participate in class assemblies, theatre improvisations, and learning activities, enhancing confidence and public speaking skills.
  • Classroom Features: Each classroom is thoughtfully designed with lockers, reading corners, scribbling boards at child-friendly heights, and interactive learning spaces.
  • Montessori Laboratory: For a hands-on learning experience, the Pre-Primary wing is equipped with a Montessori Laboratory. The students here are introduced to Montessori materials by a trained educator who presents them to the child as per the developmental needs and interests.  It helps with a logical progression to aid gradual layering of knowledge.
  • Circle Time Discussions: To inculcate the ethos of ‘valuing and respecting others’, our students are encouraged to start their day with ‘Quality Circle Time’. This helps students develop communication skills, attention span, and emotional intelligence.
  • Nashta Paani (Snack Time): A family-style meal setup that encourages socialization, good eating habits, and table manners.

Scholastic Subjects:

English, Hindi, Reading Program and Numeracy

Promoting Readership

Every pre-primary classroom has its own library and all children indulge in reading time daily. Students then discuss what they’ve read with their teachers and fellow classmates.

The Numeracy Program

This program goes beyond memorizing math facts to include discussions, manipulation of concrete materials, investigations, problem solving, practice and consolidation.

Co-Scholastic Subjects:

Creative Arts, Pottery, Cookery, Music, and Movement

Our Music Movement interwoven with Creative Movement inspires students to develop aesthetic response through singing, playing, composing, moving and dancing.

Physical development is a key part of our ECCE framework. Our outdoor activity program enhances gross and fine motor skills, preparing children for an active lifestyle. The outdoor & indoor play areas not only help the students explore different spaces, materials and game structures but also help with their sensory stimulation, decision making skills and engagement with peers

Thought Behind the Curriculum

Every child is unique, with different learning needs and socio-economic backgrounds. Understanding this, our teachers are well-equipped to tailor their teaching approaches to suit each child’s individual learning curve.

The foundation of our curriculum is deeply rooted in Maria Montessori’s philosophy of educating the whole child. Additionally, we incorporate the educational philosophies of Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi, John Dewey, Vygotsky, Piaget, and Loris Malaguzzi. Our curriculum encourages inquiry-based learning, fostering curiosity and a love for discovery beyond the classroom.
