School Conducts Earthquake Mock Drill to Strengthen Disaster Preparedness

The Khaitan School organised an Earthquake Mock Drill on 8th November 2026 for students of Classes III to V in Blocks A and D under the aegis of the Disaster Management and Safety Preparedness Programme. The initiative reaffirmed the school’s commitment to fostering a safe, vigilant, and disaster-resilient learning environment for all students and staff.

The primary objective of the drill was to enhance awareness regarding earthquake safety measures, familiarise students and staff with systematic evacuation procedures, and evaluate the effectiveness of the school’s emergency management framework in handling earthquake-related situations.

The exercise commenced with a pre-drill briefing at 8:10 am, during which Class Teachers sensitised students about earthquake preparedness through informative discussions and visual presentations. Students were thoroughly guided on emergency safety protocols, including the “Drop–Cover–Hold” response and evacuation procedures. Simultaneously, attendance records were digitally shared with the respective HOPS through designated Google Chat groups, ensuring efficient communication and accurate headcount verification.

At 10:00 am, simulated earthquake tremors were initiated using a hooter alarm, followed by a tabletop exercise. Students and staff immediately responded by following the prescribed safety protocols with discipline and alertness. Once the tremors ceased, the evacuation process began promptly without further announcements. Under the supervision of teachers and floor marshals, students evacuated the buildings calmly and systematically through designated routes.

Between 10:05 am and 10:10 am, students assembled at their designated safe zones as per the Emergency Exit Plan. Teachers conducted headcounts to ensure the safety and presence of every student. Attendance reports were then submitted to the respective HOPS, who further conveyed the information to the Principal, ensuring effective communication and accountability throughout the process.

At 10:15 am, students and staff were instructed to return to their classrooms in an orderly manner. By 10:20 am, all classes had safely resumed their positions inside the school building. A final attendance verification was conducted thereafter to confirm the safe return of all students.

The drill was successfully supervised by designated floor marshals strategically positioned across Blocks A and D to facilitate smooth evacuation and maintain discipline during the exercise. The coordinated efforts of the administration, HOPS, teachers, floor marshals, and support staff ensured the seamless execution of the mock drill.
