Educational Excursion to The National Craft Museum, New Delhi

 

 

 

 

 

On 11th February, around 225 students of Class VII embarked on an enriching educational excursion to The National Craft Museum, New Delhi. The visit was thoughtfully organized by the Social Science Department of the Middle Wing with the objective of extending learning beyond the classroom through direct engagement with India’s rich and diverse craft traditions.

The museum offered students a vibrant glimpse into India’s living heritage, showcasing an extensive range of traditional handicrafts. From intricate pottery and delicate weaving to tribal art, metalwork, wood carving, miniature paintings, and diverse textile traditions from various states, the exhibits highlighted the artistic excellence and cultural depth of the country. A major highlight of the visit was the recreated village complex, which provided students with an immersive understanding of indigenous techniques, traditional lifestyles, and the cultural diversity that defines India.

To ensure a smooth and meaningful learning experience, students were systematically divided into smaller groups under the supervision of teachers. This structured approach facilitated better observation, interaction, and discipline. Guided discussions, observation sheets, and interactive sessions encouraged students to actively engage with the exhibits and explore all major galleries efficiently.

The excursion strongly reflected an interdisciplinary approach to learning. Through the lens of Art Education, they carefully observed design elements, patterns, color combinations, and craftsmanship techniques. Additionally, from a museology standpoint, students gained insight into how artifacts are preserved, curated, and displayed to educate and inspire the public.
