Middle School Celebrates Book Week 2025–26 with Creativity, Curiosity, and a Love for Reading

The Middle Wing of The Khaitan School celebrated Book Week 2025–26 from 24 to 28 November 2025, transforming the campus into a vibrant hub of literary exploration. With a vision to nurture a deep love for reading, strengthen language proficiency, and provide students with enriching platforms for inquiry and self-expression, the week-long celebration brought together students, teachers, parent volunteers, and the school’s budding authors.

The event was meticulously planned and executed under the leadership of Curriculum Coordinator Ms. Preeti Gambhir, Head of Middle School Mr. Sachin Sharma, and the Literary Department coordinators—Ms. Kavita Srivastava (Library In-charge) and Ms. Sushmita Hajari (Reading Program In-charge). Their collective efforts ensured that literature became a shared experience that resonated across classrooms and corridors.

Day 1: Immersion in Hindi Literature (Monday, 24 November 2025)

Book Week commenced with a special Hindi Book Reading initiative during library periods, curated by Ms. Kavita Srivastava. Students explored diverse genres of Hindi fiction and non-fiction, with mythology emerging as a favourite. Animated storytelling, lively peer exchanges, and enthusiastic borrowing of books marked the day. Works by Munshi Premchand and the timeless tales of Akbar and Birbal captured the students’ imagination, making the day a successful step toward deepening comfort and interest in Hindi reading.

Day 2: English Book Talk on ‘The Open Window’ (Wednesday, 26 November 2025)

An engaging Book Talk session on Saki’s classic short story The Open Window became the highlight of Day 2. Conducted by Ms. Aarushi Chachra and coordinated by Ms. Sushmita Hajari in the AV Room, the session guided students through the purpose and structure of a Book Talk.
Students examined the cover design, author background, characters—Framton Nuttel, Vera, and Mrs. Sappleton—and key themes such as deception and appearance vs. reality.

The session concluded with a delightful creative-writing activity where students penned alternative twist endings and confidently shared them with peers. A closing address by Ms. Preeti Gambhir inspired students to read more short stories by Saki, many of which are available in the school library.

Day 3: Literary Quiz 2025–26 (Thursday, 27 November 2025)

The campus buzzed with excitement as all middle school classes participated in the Literary Quiz, conducted during the CT period. Using a common PPT, teachers anchored the quiz while Ms. Sushmita Hajari coordinated the process.
The quiz included three thoughtfully designed rounds:

  • Books & Authors – testing factual recall

  • Genres, Characters & Settings – assessing conceptual understanding

  • HOTS Round – encouraging analysis, interpretation, and value-based reflection

Students impressed the teachers with their quick recall, wide reading exposure, and ability to draw meaningful connections between literary themes and real-world values like empathy, courage, and open-mindedness. The quiz not only tested knowledge but also strengthened critical and emotional awareness.

The final day featured two impactful events, both celebrating literature through community engagement and peer inspiration.

Parent volunteers visited classrooms to conduct expressive reading sessions, sharing personal stories about the power of books. They spoke about how reading influences vocabulary, imagination, morals, and emotional well-being. The program fostered meaningful inter-generational learning and drew students closer to the idea of reading as a lifelong joy.

Student-Author Meet (12:10–1:10 p.m.)

In the AV Room, Grade 6 students interacted with the school’s young authors who shared their experiences with writing, editing, and publishing. Students asked insightful questions and many expressed interest in beginning their own writing journeys.
The day concluded with a warm gathering in the Conference Room, where the Principal addressed the attendees, appreciated parent participation, and reaffirmed the school’s commitment to nurturing a strong reading and writing culture.
