On Saturday, 18th April 2026, The Khaitan School successfully conducted an engaging and insightful Math Workshop under its much-appreciated “Coffee at School” initiative. Designed specifically for parents of Grades 3 to 5, the session offered a meaningful glimpse into the school’s experiential and concept-driven approach to teaching Mathematics.
Rooted in the philosophy, “Teach less memorization, inspire more exploration,” the workshop emphasized the importance of nurturing curiosity, logical thinking, and deep conceptual understanding among young learners. It aimed to shift perspectives from traditional rote learning to a more engaging, inquiry-based model of education.
The session was thoughtfully conducted by the Mathematics Team on the theme “Transforming Learning from Rote to Reason.” Through a well-structured and interactive format, parents were introduced to the methodologies used in classrooms, where mathematical concepts are built through activity-based learning, real-life applications, and logical reasoning.
Key Learning Areas
The workshop highlighted several core mathematical skills that form the foundation of effective learning:
Numbersense and multiplicative thinking
Use of the Empty Number Line (ENL)
Understanding of 3D shapes
Conceptual clarity of fractions and their equivalence
Geometry and spatial sense
Identification and classification of angles
Understanding closed figures
Development of analytical thinking and creativity
Hands-On Activities
What made the session truly impactful was the active participation of parents in a variety of engaging, hands-on activities. These included:
Juggling with Numbers
3D Shapes using Jodo Straw Activity
Fraction Games
Taming the Tables
Parents were also introduced to Jodo Gyan Kits, which use manipulatives and visual tools to simplify complex concepts and make learning more tangible and enjoyable for children.
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic involvement from parents, who immersed themselves fully in the activities. This experiential engagement not only enhanced their understanding of the teaching methodologies but also helped them appreciate the significance of learning through exploration rather than memorization.
The session received overwhelmingly positive feedback. Parents expressed their admiration for the innovative, child-centric approach adopted by the school and extended heartfelt appreciation to the Mathematics teachers for their dedication and creativity in making Mathematics engaging and accessible.
Beyond academics, the workshop played a vital role in strengthening the home-school partnership. It enabled parents to align with the school’s vision and better support their children’s learning journey.
The success of the workshop stands as a testament to The Khaitan School’s commitment to redefining Mathematics education—making it engaging, practical, and meaningful. As aptly said, “Memorized math fades; understood math stays,” the session reinforced the importance of conceptual clarity and lifelong learning.
Through initiatives like “Coffee at School,” The Khaitan School continues to empower not just students, but also parents—creating a collaborative ecosystem where learning truly thrives.
